Wreckers Splash Fairfield

The Staples High boys swimming team opened its season last Wednesday with an 86-79 win over Fairfield. Senior quad-captain Chris Wiederecht won in the 400-meter freestyle and is second in school history with a 4:17.64. Wiederecht also won the 200-meter freestyle (2:05.56). 

Staples senior quad-captain Stefan Tziolis is now seventh on the team’s all-time board in his victory in the 100-meter freestyle (1:01.57). Fellow senior quad-captains Nick Pulvino (26.98) and Jeffrey Helt (1:04.12) won the 50-meter freestyle and 100-meter freestyle, respectively and Pulvino qualified for Class LL. Sophomore Zach Slater (174.95) won diving and junior Stephen Deluca (165.3) took second, both qualifying for Class LL. 

Tziolis, junior Trevor Lally, sophomore Cory Bacon and Helt won the 200-meter medley relay (1:59.37). Wiederecht, Pulvino, Bacon and senior Ian O’Connell won the 200-meter freestyle relay (1:47.89) and Wiederecht, O’Connell, Tziolis and Helt won the 400-meter freestyle relay (4:02.27).

Practice Cancellation Procedures

·   If there is an early dismissal due to weather, there will be a shortened practice 2:30 – 4:00. If a meet is scheduled, the meet is postponed.
·   If school is cancelled due to weather there will be no practice.  If a meet is scheduled, the meet is postponed.
·   If you are at home during vacation and the weather is threatening and practice is scheduled; call Jeff’s cell phone (203) 257-7789 for information about the status of practice.   

Please Remember Appropriate Day of Meet Attire

From Coach Schare: The team needs to dress appropriately for school on the day of all meets. Proper dress for the men refers to dress pants, shirt and tie. Appropriate attire for women includes dress pants, skirt or dress. Jeans, sweats and sneakers are not appropriate attire.

This new picture format offers many more options then the old site including the ability to actually order a finished photo and other items. A picture can also be attached to an email under the “Share” button. Pictures can be downloaded to the desktop by size (original is recommended) by scrolling to the right of the featured photo.
